Metadefender Lite

Metadefender Lite provides application developers with an easy way to integrate ClamAV AntiVirus detection engine into their applications to perform real time virus scanning. Metadefender Lite uses the native port of Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV).

Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) is an open source antivirus toolkit for UNIX distributed under the GPL and specifically designed to scan e-mail passing through e-mail gateways. A number of utilities are included into Clam AntiVirus, such as a flexible and scalable multithreaded daemon, a command line scanner, and advanced automatic database update tool. The core of the ClamAV package is an antivirus engine available as a shared library.

Metadefender Lite is supplied with a royalty-free license that can be used by one developer for creating an unlimited number of applications that run on an unrestricted number of computers. ClamAV is an open source antivirus program, which updates virus bases independent of the developer’s website. The license includes a free one-year update of Metadefender Lite.

Metadefender

Metadefender is an SDK, which allows integration of various antivirus engines into applications for real time scanning. Metadefender is not an end-user application but the library for software developers. Using Metadefender, you can integrate antivirus engines from Avast!, ClamAV, Quick Heal and VirusBuster EDK into your application. No antivirus can detect threats with 100% guarantee. Metadefender, which unites several different antivirus engines increases probability of successfully detecting malware.

Different antivirus scanners (Avast!, ClamAV, QuickHeal and VirusBuster) used in Metadefender allow the software to get virus signatures, which are important for detecting the newest viruses, considerably faster. So the risk for the system to get infected by some new virus is dramatically reduced. Actually, not a single antivirus software product can be the first to detect new viruses ALL THE TIME. There are a lot of reasons why different companies respond to each new virus attack with different delays. Having quite a few of antivirus engines bundled together takes your chances of detecting a new threat by at least one of them to a new level. Moreover, even if you have all your virus databases updated, differences in virus detection methods used by different engines increase the possibility that one of these methods will be good at detecting a new variation of some malware. To sum it up, using as many available antivirus engines as possible makes your computer system as protected as never before.

Metadefender has an annually distributed license. The price of the license depends on the number of end-users operating the antivirus engines.
Metadefender includes annual licenses for the built-in Avast! and VirusBuster engines, and also supports preset ClamAV and Quick Heal antivirus engines.
An update of the virus bases of engines included in a distribution kit is executed automatically by the engine developer’s website during the one-year license period. The virus bases update of preset engines is carried out according to the engine developer license.
